Hydromorphology and sediment transport

There are many sedimentary and hydromorphological issues at stake.
They concern both the environmental dimension and the safety dimension associated with river risks. They come into play, for example, in assessing the condition of watercourses, by taking into account their solid transport and the evolution of their morphology (nature of the bed, erodibility, lateral and vertical evolution, associated vegetation dynamics) or the sediment transparency of transverse structures.
Safety issues concern the link between solid transport and the risks of flooding or erosion, which are particularly sensitive in mountain and piedmont areas. Solid transport includes not only sediment but also woody material, which is increasingly present in watercourses.
The aim of this section is therefore to develop tools and knowledge to assess the transport of inorganic and organic materials and the evolution of river forms, taking into account this transport as well as hydrology and all the human pressures within the basins.
The aim is also to establish the link between these characteristics and the ecological status of river corridors, taking into account aquatic and riparian environments.
