Presentation
Hydrometry here refers to the sciences and techniques used to measure the level and flow of watercourses, whether natural or artificial, surface or underground. These measurements are fundamental to the hydrological sciences and to the management of water resources and natural hazards.
Since 2005, the French and French-speaking hydrometric community has gradually organized itself around the “Groupe Doppler”, an informal working group created spontaneously to consolidate knowledge of acoustic Doppler current profilers (ADCP), which have revolutionized hydrometric practices since the 1990s. In 2014, the Groupe Doppler extended its scope to include all hydrometric technologies, both conventional and innovative, and the analysis of associated uncertainties, and took the name “Groupe Doppler Hydrométrie”.
It brings together an active community of French operational and academic hydrometers (CNR, EDF, IRD, Irstea – ex-INRAE, DREAL/SPC/Schapi…) and French-speaking foreigners (HydroQuébec, Environment Canada, OFEV, etc.). The group’s activities have produced tangible results, such as the ADCP guide (2008), the re-edition of the Charte qualité de l’Hydrométrie (2017), intercomparisons of ADCP gauges (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2016), and intercomparisons of gauges using pole-mounted or truck-mounted current meters, the IFORE ADCP in-depth course, reactivation of the AFNOR X10C Hydrometry national standardization commission (2014), as well as many technical exchanges (velocimetric radars, transit time ultrasonic stations, etc.) in the form of forums. ) in the form of forums.
In 2017, Groupe Doppler Hydrométrie joins forces with SHF. This rapprochement is the culmination of a fruitful collaboration to organize the various editions of the SHF Hydrométrie symposium in March 2008, May 2013 and March 2017. The next edition will take place on November 23 and 24, 2021 at the Ecole SupAgro in Montpellier.
